Abstract
Pre-service teachers in teacher education programs have long struggled with the reality of their chosen career; there is no other way to prepare for teaching than to teach students.This has created a fear in some teachers, particularly novice teachers, where innovation and design of new ideas shunned in favor of what is comfortable or “proven.”Unlike the hard sciences, the science of learning requires human subjects.What if we could create a virtual space and immersive experiences for teachers to conduct that research and development?This presentation explores the possibilities allowed by immersive,360-degree video and virtual reality technology paired with the science of teaching and learning toward developing low-stakes testing grounds for teachers.The future of teacher education relies on the ability of its career professionals to craft new strategies to meet the ever-changing needs of students; this project allows them to create without worry of negative consequence to the learner.
