Abstract

"Publish or Perish" is a staple of academic life that causes anxiety for many beginning professors. The consequences of low publishing productivity have been exaggerated, but those who are prolific publishers prosper. This presentation, conducted by the Research Editor of Computers in the Schools, will focus on providing publishing aids and cautions for beginning authors including: 1) attitude toward publishing, 2) reasons to publish, 3) how writing can be enjoyable, 4) making writing a high priority, 5) selecting the right journal, 6) how to query, 7) checking on the status of an article, 8) maximizing the likelihood of acceptance, 9) selecting a topic, 10) how to break into publishing with a literature review, 11) responding to rejection, 12) responding to conditional acceptance, 13) how to collaborate with other writers, 14) selecting a peer with whom to collaborate, 15) how to become a reviewer, 16) getting a book contract, and 17) royalty negotiations for books.
