Philosophical examinations untie question "What is literacy?" lie at the center of many, if not most, educational debates. Current Discourse surrounding literacy practices is a result of the history and theories surrounding reading instruction. This philosophical inquiry examines, through the careful examination of historical events and theories shaping literacy practices and culture surrounding technology, literacy Discourse. In doing so, it illuminates the paradigm shift in literacy Discourse as influenced by technology. In taking a look at the literacy Discourse and the technological influences, this philosophical inquiry through the analysis of terms, deconstruction of history, speculation regarding other practices and synthesizing of information is designed to generate knowledge, meaning, and value for what we, as educators, are doing in literacy education, as well as to seek to answer the question, "How has technology influenced literacy Discourse?" This study reveals the metamorphosis of literacy and the Pedagogical Response to Technology Cycle.
