The effects of clicker feedback on student success

Student response systems (clickers) are designed to improve the overall classroom experience by increasing participation and providing real-time feedback. The claim made by the clicker companies as well as by many researchers is that this feedback is of great interest to the students and may serve as a significant motivating factor in terms of creating interest in the topic. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of clicker feedback on student success. To test this, sections of an introductory biology class for majors were used. The only difference between the control and experimental groups was the presence or absence of clicker use. In addition, student attitude toward the clickers was assessed with an end of semester survey.
