The purpose of this article is to explore the legal parameters of copyright law as they pertain to teachers who use online learning components in their instruction. This article will explore how recent legislation has been enacted to deal with copyright law pertaining to materials accessed online. With new informational technologies coming at a rapid rate, new issues for copyright laws are coming forth. Digital information can be copied and downloaded in seconds has some crying foul and claiming their copyrighted materials have been illegally accessed and used without their permission. Some who hold copyrights on creative works are seeking for greater protection or for reciprocation for those who download or use their materials. At the same time, many users of digital information are resenting the restrictions of digital materials, along with the clamoring of those who seek for greater protection under copyright laws. Of all of this, what does the teacher need to know?
