Diffusing Innovations: Sharing University Assignments

This paper provides background information for a round table session highlighting how an innovative assignment was shared in different teacher preparation courses at two universities to promote integration of Web 2.0 tools. In preservice teacher preparation, instructors of educational technology courses are obligated to continually modify curriculum to address the advances in technologies, as well as account for the changes in the types and amounts of available technology tools applicable to K-12 school environments. The Innovations Mini-Teach assignment addresses technology curriculum needs and allows preservice teachers opportunities for building experience in innovating with educational technology tools, collaborating with peers, and teacher whole-group lessons. Action research data on this shared assignment will provide insight from both university implementations in three areas, 1) Implementation of the model, 2) Scaffolding for the learning process, and 3) Student Response to the experience.
