This paper provides an in-depth look at the scope, definition, and issues of digital literacy – which the authors argue, must include learners’ digital reading comprehension. The strategies outlined in this work will help not only improve learners’ digital reading comprehension, but will also benefit institutional efforts to increase learning outcomes and maintain higher retention rates. The use of digital materials has added another level of complexity to the learning process. Locating, sifting through, and comprehending digital materials can be difficult for students, especially in the fast-paced online or digital learning environment. Digital literacy, therefore, is not limited to the ability to access, use, locate, search and select digital materials, but more importantly, includes the ability to read and comprehend digital resources. Digital reading comprehension must form part of the continuing efforts in enhancing learners' digital literacy to ensure students’ success in their educational and career pursuits.
