Abstract

The poster is a practical follow-up of A. Smits’ brief paper in the symposium “Practicing and prospective teachers’ pedagogical reasoning about using technology in their educational practice” [53917] With the poster, the researchers present how they modelled technology integration in a course on English literature (content), and show some of the products that students designed over the course of the module. Of importance in teacher education is that the technology that is used, is used at the core of TPACK, so that technology meaningfully strengthens not just pedagogical but also content goals. In their module the teachers attempted to model TPACK core assignments in the hopes of this spilling over into the products of students. Next to modelling the use of technology, the teachers also modelled their pedagogical reasoning for the assignments, since that is also an important ingredient for high quality teaching. The pedagogical reasoning was made an important part of the interview that was conducted with the students as assessment of the module. In the interview the students had to discuss the merits of their products. Though the variance in quality was high, a number of students performed exceedingly well in using technology to reach their content-goals at the end of the module, and reasoned effectively about it.
