The Analysis on Research Trends for STEAM education in Korea

This paper investigates STEAM education research trends in Korea. In order to analyze these trends, STEAM education studies in Korean education journals from 2011 to 2015 were analyzed. Several standards and criteria were used to find these studies. The analysis revealed that 104 out of 317 studies used computers. Second, “SW and APP utilize” was the most frequently occurring for computer-based studies. Analysis of research methods revealed that the term “development/application” accounted for 80% of all studies. For research designs, a majority of the studies used either qualitative research (44%) or mixed method research (49%). Finally, elementary school student were the subjects in 54% of the selected studies. These results demonstrate that STEAM education on computers research is not conducted in all areas. Therefore, it is necessary for STEAM education studies to use more diverse computer themes, research methods, research designs, and subjects.
