This paper describes the pilot Museum Satellites project, involving development of a web-based learning activity, linked to a museum. The objective of the project is to improve the learning experience that takes place in museums by providing pre and post visit continuity for museum visits and opportunities for a more personal and meaningful learning experience. Museum Satellites are web-based activities for multimedia exploration, visual organization of multimedia information, and presentation. The project explores the possibilities of spatial organization of information for inquiry, reflection, presentation, and collaboration. The satellite becomes available on the web for asynchronous collaboration of multiple participants, making it an ongoing exhibit that can be used by other visitors and students. The museum will make its resources available by providing the images of their artifacts, information sources, and help and guidance of its educators and experts.
