Abstract
The purpose of this study was to design and develop a web-based PBL program and to examine the effects of the type of task and group composition on problem solving in a web-supported problem-based learning environment. The students were working cooperatively as a group on the authentic task of the web-based PBL program. The results of the analysis showed that group composition as well as the type of group task significantly exerted differential effects on the problem solving processes and outcomes of the students. The implications of these results for problem-based learning were discussed.
