Abstract

This paper reports a study on English as a foreign language (EFL) instruction integrating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). There is a high demand for university students to study aboard to enhance their English proficiency. The students, now, can prepare themselves for overseas study and the new learning environment using a MOOC. In addition, any student has opportunities for learning from professors at top-ranking American schools, if they wish. In spite of their potentiality, MOOCs have not been studied extensively in the context of language education in regard to how these wonderful materials can be used to enhance students’ English proficiency. As an exploratory study, this study examines the potentiality of language instruction integrating MOOCs. As a result, the study shows how MOOCs can be a good educational resource to study English. Some suggestions are made for further studies using MOOCs in language education.
