Abstract

The purpose of this study is to introduce asynchronous discussion board as a method of developing critical thinking skills on the Department of Applied Foreign Languages (AFL) majored EFL students in Taiwan. The study will provide discourse analysis of an asynchronous; text based discussions on the 'Cityfamily' discussion forum (Cityfamily is a free shareware which provides a virtual online community and asynchronous discussion forum) and will provide a framework of using ADB to improve College EFL students critical thinking skill. In addition, the study will suggest that the educational effectiveness of using asynchronous discussion board to augment AFL students critical thinking so that both target language learning and critical thinking can be achieved.
