Abstract
Beginning faculty are often intimidated by the need to publish. This presentation by the Research Editor of Computers in the Schools, will focus on helping beginners get started in academic publishing. The presentation will begin by discussing the reasons why professors should publish. Next, attitude toward publishing will be discussed. Many professors have negative attitudes toward publishing, and expend a great deal of time and energy complaining about the "publish or perish" nature of higher education. This is a grave error, and the presentation will stress the importance of approaching writing with a positive attitude. Next, ideas will be presented for maximizing the chances that a manuscript will be accepted. A major part of the presentation will be a discussion of what to do following the inevitable rejections that every author suffers. Other topics include selecting a topic and collaboration. A question and answer period will conclude the presentation.
