Abstract
This brief paper will show the relationship between the types of metaphors for technology, mathematics and teaching mathematics with technology used by teacher candidates in four different majors (i.e., elementary education, special education, early childhood education, and mathematics education). By deconstructing the metaphors used underlying beliefs will be described. Previous researchers have shown a relationship between metaphors, beliefs, and teaching practices. The study to be presented is intended to help extend the field to understand how metaphors used by teacher candidates might constrain attempts to embrace ambitious teaching practices in mathematics that utilize technology.
